Benedictine is an herbal liqueur made in France, made using a secret recipe that includes 27 herbs and spices.

The recipe was created in 1510 by the monk Dom Bernardo Vincelli at the Benedictine Abbey of Fécamp in Normandy. During the French Revolution, the recipe was lost, but it was rediscovered in 1863 by Alexandre le Grand, who began production under the trade name "Bénédictine". The company still produces the liqueur to this day, but it is not affiliated with the Benedictine Order.
