A nail is a generic class of cocktails, grouped by the similarity of the recipies by preparation, not taste.
[edit] Generic classification
- 2 parts Spirit
- 1 part Liquer
Most often served stirred on the rocks.
Named after the classic Rusty_Nail. Distinguished mainly by the 2:1 proportions, although occasionally it's seen as 3:2, (eg 1 1/2 oz spirit to 1 oz liqueur) or 3:1 . Many of the Highballs and Sours start with these proportions and add a non-alcoholic mixer.
A good rule of thumb when hearing a random recipe for the first time is to aim at these proportions with the liquor, then modify any other ingredients to suit.
