A quintessentially Canadian variation on the Bloody Mary, the chief difference being the use of Clamato juice.
The Bloody Caesar, or just Caesar, was invented in 1969 at the Owl's Nest Bar, Calgary Inn, in Calgary. At first it minced clams were used for the clammy flavor; later the standard ingredient became Mott's Clamato juice.
[edit] Recipe
- 2 oz. vodka
- 3-4 oz. Mott's Clamato juice
- 3-5 dashes Tabasco Sauce
- 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- Celery salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon horseradish (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice, shake vigorously, and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Garnish with pickled green beans and a lemon wedge. Other garnishes used have included shrimp.
