While this is technically not the true original, depending on location and circumstances, a bartender should know when to check what is expected. Ordering a "Short Black Russian" vs a "Tall Black Russian" may help eliminate any confusion.
In Ireland, apparently the standard is a Tall Black Russian with a Guiness head

- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 3/4 oz Kahlua
- Fill with ice
- Serve in a rocks glass
