Generic classification

  • 2 ounces liquor
  • 2 teaspoons sugar

Dissolve the sugar in the liquor and serve over ice.

Variations

  • Using a higher-proof liquor and a sugar syrup, as in the Rock & Rye.
  • Combining a pre-sweetened liquor-strength liqueur with the liquor instead of using sugar, as in the Rusty Nail.
