Tom Bullock wrote "The Ideal Bartender", published in 1917.

Born in Louisville, Ky., in 1871, Bullock's "The Ideal Bartender" was the first cocktail recipe book written by an African-American. The introduction to the book was written by George Herbert Walker, grandfather of President George H.W. Bush, and great-grandfather of President George W. Bush. "The Ideal Bartender" includes a feast of pre-Prohibition cocktail recipes, many we would not have today if it hadn't been for Bullock's book. Bullock died in 1964.
