Recipe

  • 1/2 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz Orange juice
  • 1/4 oz Cinnamon syrup
  • 1 oz Don's Spices #2 (*)
  • 2 oz Amber Virgin Islands rum
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

Put everything in blender, and add four ounces of crushed ice. Blend at high speed for approximately 5 seconds. Pour into a tall glass. Add crushed ice to fill. Sink an orange peel into the drink with peel hanging over the glass edge as a garnish.

  • Don's Spices #2: Equal parts Vanilla Syrup and Pimento Liqueur (aka Allspice Dram).

History

Originally created by Don the Beachcomber in the mid-1930s when it was known as the Pupule. By 1958, it had its new name. The cocktail was also served at the Aku Aku restaurant at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., where it was known as the Desert Rattler.
