What are known as "tiki drinks" first became popular with the original Don the Beachcomber restaurant, which opened in Hollywood in the 1930s. Tiki is the faux-Polynesian craze of strong drinks and South Pacific style. The owners of many tiki establishments were very protective of their house cocktails. Because of this, it often isn't clear what the correct recipe is for many tiki drinks.
